Why do I get Clipboard access prompt?

Question

All of a sudden SuperMemo started asking me Do you want to allow this webpage to access your Clipboard?. It happens each time I try to add an article! How can I disable this?

Answer

This prompt is displayed by Internet Explorer, not by SuperMemo.

You can avoid it by changing the following setting in Internet Explorer:

Tools : Internet Options : Security : Custom level : Scripting : Allow programmatic clipboard access

Instead of Prompt, use Enable.

The setting is occasionally changed during Windows updates. This means that you may occasionally need to revisit this page.

Side effect

This problem makes SuperMemo seem hung up, while it waits for the permission to import content from a page. Unfortunately, Microsoft keeps changing that setting from Enable to Prompt at all major updates to Windows (several times per year).
