Subject: Whole collection got messed up because of an I/O error
Question:
I recently got a I/O error because of Windows Live mesh synchronising my collection while I was using it. I immediately closed the collection, backed it up and repaired it.
Now, I get a bunch of "Cannot get topic list for [...]" errors when trying to search text within my collection, and it seems like Supermemo deleted a bunch of my elements, even though it says "Duplicate" when I try to import those elements again.
Hints
- Please secure your most recent backup as soon as possible. The error you mention indicates data missing in the collection (perhaps an entire file or files missing). This collection could be severely corrupted. 90% bet: you would do better going back to the backup. If this would mean lots of extra work, please await a more technical answer that will tell you what exactly the error message means, but lost data is a sure thing!
- there is an FAQ here somewhere on Locked files. Some apps that lock files can interfere with SuperMemo and cannot be used simultaneously. See; Some applications lock SuperMemo files and cause errors
