Question

enrico asked: Can very old collections be upgraded to SuperMemo 19?

Answer

Yes

SuperMemo 1 to 6 for DOS

Those very old versions come with export tools. If you can run old SuperMemos in DOS, you can also run those tools to generate text files that can be imported to newer versions.

SuperMemo 7

You can import from SuperMemo 7 as long as you can run sm7imprt.exe in 16-bit Windows. For example, you can use SuperMemo 98 for the purpose.

SuperMemo 8 to SuperMemo 15

SuperMemo 8 through 15 collections must first be imported to SuperMemo 16 (free, trial, light or commercial). This is the upgrade procedure:

  1. open the collection in SuperMemo 16
  2. open the collection in your SuperMemo (e.g. SuperMemo 19)

Note that SuperMemo 98 through SuperMemo 2008 have their equivalent numbering as SuperMemo 9 through SuperMemo 14.

SuperMemo 16 and later

Collection use in SuperMemo 16 do not require an upgrade. They can be opened in newer SuperMemos (e.g. SuperMemo 19)
