Squares in Q&A files

Question

I have a problem I had with the 2002 version and I hoped it would be solved in 2004. I made questions and answers in Supermemo 2004 looking like these:

question field:

1

2

answer field:

3

4

But when I export these with "Q&A text" I get this in the textfile:

Q: 1[]2

A: 3[]4

So the return character is replaced with a square. What can I do to get them on a separate line?

Answer

The squares are characters with the code #2 that is used to encode EOL characters (#13+#10) that are part of the collection as opposed to part of Q&A file. Q&A files are intended solely for export/import between SuperMemo. You can only get rid of the squares by Search&Replace (e.g. in MS Word), however, such a modified file will not import correctly back to SuperMemo
