Problem with video drivers in SuperMemo
(Redirected from Problem with video drivers in SuperMemo 16)
problem
I use SuperMemo 16 in Windows XP.
- I am unable to view any movies with SuperMemo. I only hear the sound, but cannot see anything. I don't use any additional codec packs. I only use the VLC media player, and all the films are played by VLC without any problems. With SM I get the following: "Video not available. Cannot find 'vids:xvid' decompressor." (original message in Polish: "Wideo nie jest dostępne. Nie można odnaleźć dekompresora "vids:xvid"")
- SM16 does not seem to recognize mp4 video files, despite the fact that they are listed in the list of extensions in the video files window. When I want to add an mp4 file I get the following: "Cannot determine device type from the given filename extension" (original message in Polish: "Nie można ustalić typu urządzenia na podstawie podanego rozszerzenia pliku.")
solution
You need full MCI support for files that you want to import.
Some help can he found here: Cannot_play_.AVI_file.
VCL uses newer APIs for running videos, MCI is a bit old.
user's own workaround
I solved the problem by installing an xvid codec from here: Xvid Video Codec downloads.
