Pasting image component results in resizing of all components
Summary
- before SuperMemo 2004, pasting pictures would not affect the size of other components, the user would need to reorganize the components after the paste
- in SuperMemo 2004, existing components are shifted to the left to make space for the pasted pictures. Successive pastes squeeze the components further and further
- in SuperMemo 16, picture paste moves the components only if there is no existing empty picture component that might be re-used. Successive pastes tile pictures in the available picture area (i.e. they affect only the size of picture components, not the size of other components)
Question
Question:
PROBLEM: I use SuperMemo 2004. When I try to add an image to an element by pressing Ctrl+V a new image component containing the image from the clipboard is added but at the same time all existing components of the element suddenly get resized by SuperMemo. There was no such problem in SuperMemo 2002.
Is there any option in SM2004's preference tab where I could fix this inconvenient behavior?
WORKAROUND: I create an empty image component first and then add an image from the clipboard to this component.
Answer:
This can be best solved with templates. Once you paste an image, apply the preferred template. Or, if you paste a lot, set that template as a default template in the category
p.s. the shift occurs because customers often tended to "lose" the image when it hid behind other components
Answer2:
This is only a workaround - and it does not work fine. I copy graphics out of PDF files. The images have different sizes and I do not want to resize every image. I also used templates in SM2002 a lot and there it works fantastic. But now - new Version and terrible "Feature"! At top I have the Q: text field, at bottom the A: Field (only some filled with notes), and in the middle I want the image with the original answer (because a lot of them are definitions, in math or computer science).
This was wunderfully realised in SM2002. I create a new flashcard in about 20-30 seconds. But now - terribile! Please change the behaviour back to SM2002 Standard. Otherwise I have to use the old Version. Or you make it depend on witch Level the user operates. In Beginner Mode this behaviour is ok, but in Professional it is a very, very poor behaviour.
So, please change it back to SM2002 beahviour, could you? Best regards, mitch
Explanation needed
Please explain why this is terrible. Why templates or component tiling do not solve your problem? After all, when you insert something new, you usually need extra space for insertion, and if there is sufficient space, you can always drag a very specific size of the image component from the Compose toolbar.
And if you happen to use all the right tools, and it is still terrible, where and how an option with / without component resizing should be implemented (button, menu, shortcut, etc.)
