Keyboard shortcuts E, Q and A: Different behaviours

From SuperMemopedia

Situation

The keyboard shortcuts E, Q and A are documented as entering the question and answer components of an element so that the user can edit them. See help [SuperMemo: Keyboard Shortcuts | http://www.supermemo.com/help/shortcuts.htm], as necessary. I cannot find any reference to a change in this behaviour being documented for different contexts.

Problem

These keys appear to work differently under different contexts. If the Element window or a Browser window is opened with the focus on a particular element, then these keys all appear to work as documented. However, if the focus is on the same element but you start from within the Contents windows, then:

  • Pressing "E" gives an audible alert (Beep!), then moves to the relevant component
  • Pressing "Q" gives an audible alert (Beep!), then moves to the relevant component
  • Pressing "A" gives an audible alert (Beep!), but appears to do nothing - the focus is not moved to the answer but remains in the Contents window

I can't find any reference to the use of an audible alert/alarm. Is, therefore,

  • this difference in behaviour by design?
  • and if so why doesn't "A" work the same as the other shortcuts "E" and "Q"?
  • why is there an audible warning when these actions are invoked from the Contents window?

Bypass

Enter the answer component from some other part of the program, not the Contents window.

Hint

  • this is probably an oversight as it would be convenient to use Q and A in the contents window in the same way as in the browser (unless there is a conflict with some other functions)
