Keyboard shortcut Ctrl+S
Situation
The keyboard shortcut reference for SM2006, see, help [SuperMemo: Keyboard Shortcuts | http://www.supermemo.com/help/shortcuts.htm], describes Ctrl+S as Search for texts containing a given string (globally or in registries). I cannot find any reference to a change in this behaviour in specific contexts.
Problem
If a browser window is opened, with say a search for a string from the Search: Find Elements dialog, then the key sequence Ctrl+S does not call up the find dialog box. It appears to change the order of elements in the browser window.
Can you please explain this behaviour in SM and add corresponding references to the help files as necessary?
Bypass
If the focus is moved away from the browser window, for example by clicking in the element window, then the Ctrl+S function appears to work as documented.
- Note: in relation to the previous post regarding Ctrl+F6, this key sequence does not work if the focus is on the browser window. Is this by design?
Answer
- Ctrl+S in the browser (Sort using priority sorting criteria) is a function added to SuperMemo after the release (it might be missing from help as this always lags with updates)
- Ctrl+S in the registry (or other windows) should open a search subset
Follow-up
Surely it is a horrible and not wholly professional admission to say that 'the help is always out of date with the updates'. How much of a lag and when will it be updated and how will the users get to know about it? If the person making the code changes, who should understand what has changed and why, doesn't have responsibility for making sure that the changed functionality is properly documented, who does and how will they know what to write? How many things will fall between the cracks? Please ask the powers to be to review their project methodology and see if they can tighten things up. This appears to be the first time that "priority sorting criteria" features on this web site and I can't find it on SuperMemo.com either. Is it also described under some other name? What is it? How's it supposed to work, or benefit the users? How are the sorting criteria to be selected or defined? Incidentaly, if it involes % priority, the elements in the browser don't appear to be sorted in respect of the % priority (Prior) field when Ctrl+S is used, so is it working as designed?
