Question

On the page What's new in SuperMemo 16? you state:

equivalent, but differently encoded URLs are reported as duplicates. For example, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projection_%28linear_algebra%29 will be detected as a duplicate of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projection_(linear_algebra)

Pasting the above link into Internet Explorer and then importing the page into SuperMemo 16 does not convert the LATEX formulas. I understand SuperMemo doesn't directly support LATEX, but your example implies that this is possible.

Answer

You can set Wikipedia to generate math formulas in the PNG format in user preferences: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Preferences#Math

The Wikipedia example from "What's new in SuperMemo 16?" only refers to the fact that there was no URL normalization before SuperMemo 16. This meant that the same page accessed via different URLs might not show up on duplicate list and thus be imported twice.
