=== merging problems ===
* the picture mixup means that you will probably need to repeat the merge after setting up AE secondary storage
* your picture might have landed in place of AE picture if AE secondary storage was not set (see original AE2014, if it does not have ''goose'' picture, it means it is not set up for transfer)(SuperMemo uses the first open filespace slot to place new pictures)
* ordinals are not used in learning (they are useful in developing commercial collections)
* if you want your target collection to retain the first day from the old collection, you probably have only one method: (1) change date for first day, (2) memorize first element in AE2014, and (3) change the date back (AE2014 has to have Memorized=0 before date change)

Question:

Which is better? Merging Advanced English 2014 with main collection or leaving them separate?

If merging is a good idea, should I merge AE2014 with the main collection or the main collection with AE2014?

I have my collection with 4,5k elements. I've bought AE2014 and I don't want to work with two collections. What do you recommend?

Answer:

For 4,500 elements, you would probably prefer to transfer that collection to AE2014 (i.e. use Merge collection in your collection)

Reasons:

  • it is faster to transfer a smaller collection to a bigger collection
  • if you transfer Advanced English 2014 to your collection, you will lose element ID compatibility with future versions

Make a good backup. Not all properties of your collection will transfer. Usually this is not a problem, but you need to check it carefully.

If you have a version older than SuperMemo 17, check the buglist (e.g. bugs removed in development of SuperMemo 17, esp. element transfer section). This will tell you more about possible surprises.

Follow up
